Memorandum of Understanding between SOS Children's Villages Uzbekistan and the Commissioner for Children's Rights of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan
On December 2, 2024, SOS Children's Villages Uzbekistan and the Commissioner for Children's Rights of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. This agreement marks a significant milestone in reinforcing efforts to promote and protect the rights of children in the country.
Since 2008, SOS Children's Villages Uzbekistan has implemented a Child Protection Policy, which guides our active efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of children in our care. Based on international standards, this policy covers all the Association's programs and projects, becoming a fundamental tool in safeguarding children's rights and preventing any form of abuse.
The Memorandum with the Commissioner for Children's Rights sets the stage for fruitful collaboration between both parties to uphold children's rights. It focuses on establishing accessible complaint mechanisms, creating safe and confidential channels for children, particularly those in alternative care, to report violations of their rights. Additionally, it aims to enhance legal awareness and organize initiatives to increase public knowledge about children's rights and the available mechanisms for their protection, while also addressing measures to prevent violence.
During the meeting, the Commissioner was introduced to the work of the Tashkent branch of SOS Children's Villages Uzbekistan, including the services dedicated to alternative care and preventing family separation.
The signing of the Memorandum underscores the shared commitment of SOS Children's Villages Uzbekistan and the Commissioner for Children's Rights of the Oliy Majlis to the protection of children's rights and interests, establishing a strong foundation for future collaborative initiatives.
